Buying industrial machinery from a manufacturer: what to check
A checklist before you sign an order, whether with us or any other supplier.
1. Datasheet and scope of supply
Ask for the datasheet of the exact model and check that the offer details what is included: mast, battery, charger, bucket, attachments and spare parts. Any option not stated in writing is not considered included.
2. Documentation
Before paying, ask for the declaration of conformity and the technical documentation required by the regulations of the destination country, as well as the user manual in your language. Check that the data on the machine plate matches the offer.
3. Warranty and spare parts
Ask for the warranty period in writing: what it covers, how a claim is handled and the lead time for spare parts.
4. Lead time and payment terms
If the machine is built to order, set the estimated lead time and how changes are communicated. Agree the payment schedule (deposit and balance) before confirming the order.
5. Transport and Incoterms
Incoterms (EXW, FOB, CIF and others) set who pays for transport and insurance and where the risk passes to the buyer. Compare offers on the same Incoterm and ask what the transport covers up to your site.
6. Taxes and customs
A machine arriving from outside your country or the EU may be subject to import duties and VAT depending on the destination. Check with your customs agent before agreeing the final price.
7. Receiving the machine
Inspect the machine on delivery, note any transport damage on the delivery note and check the documentation before putting it into service.
