Backhoe loader or mini excavator
One loads and digs on wheels; the other only digs, but gets in where the first cannot. Here is how to decide.
Main differences
| Criterion | Backhoe loader | Mini excavator |
|---|---|---|
| Tasks | Loads, digs, carries and pushes | Trench and foundation digging |
| Travel | On wheels, drives around the site | On tracks, slower; moved on a trailer |
| Size | Higher | Compact, reaches yards and gardens |
| Weight in our range | From 1.8 to 10 t | From 0.8 to 4 t |
When to choose a backhoe loader
If you need to load trucks, move material and dig on the same site, and travel distances within the job, the backhoe loader saves a second machine. With a breaker or forks, it widens the work.
When to choose a mini excavator
If you work in tight spaces, landscaping, irrigation trenches or urbanisation, the mini excavator fits through narrow gates and damages the ground less with rubber tracks.
How to decide
Measure the narrowest access, the digging depth and whether you need to load material. Tell us about your job and we recommend tonnage and configuration.
